This excellent 2013 review article in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine highlights the difficulties of clinical practice of the everyday work of a doctor in view of gender disparities in five “enormous fields of medicine: cardiovascular disease, pharmacology, oncology, liver disease, and osteoporosis.” “Gender-specific medicine is a neglected dimension with respect to the study of sex influences on pathophysiology, clinical signs, prevention, and therapy of disease.” Anyone looking for a well-referenced comprehensive review should look at this one by Italian researchers in the known international world of sex and gender.
