An AMA resolution, passed in June 2016, instructs doctors to treat their patients through a sex and gender lens. Sex differences between women and men can lead to different recommendations for care and treatment, and consideration of gender identity, cultural identity, socioeconomic status, and other factors can lead to better outcomes for all patients.
